There’s a new restaurant on Kauai in Poipu. Culinary pioneer Roy Yamaguchi joins a line-up of Hawaii’s top chefs including Peter Merriman and Jean-Marie Josselin at The Shops at Kukuiula. The addition of Eating House 1849 will add to the list of The Shops at Kukuiula’s award-winning restaurants: Merriman’s Fish House, Josselin’s Tapas Bar & Grill, Tortilla Republic Grill + Margarita Bar and Dolphin Restaurant, Fish Market & Lounge.
“We are happy and extremely proud to have one of Hawaii’s favorite celebrity chefs, Roy Yamaguchi, join our ohana at The Shops,” said Helaine Perel, real estate manager of The Shops at Kukuiula.
According to chef Roy Yamaguchi, Eating House 1849 was named after one of the first restaurants constructed in Hawaii by a Portuguese businessman named Peter Fernandez. Eating House plays homage to a medley of flavors and a blend of immigrant recipes with local ingredients.
Menu items include Kaneshiro Farms Pork and Shrimp Potstickers ($12) with garlic aioli, lup cheong and Korean chili vinaigrette; “Canton” Style Vegetable Noodles ($13) with Yakisoba egg noodles, fresh vegetables, Hamakua mushrooms and garlic pepper shoyu; and “Hapa” Burger ($16) a Makaweli beef and Kulana wild boar patty with smoked Gouda cheese, onions three ways, lettuce, tomato, avocado and chipotle aioli.
