Here’s a note I received from Chris Jaeb, owner of Common Ground Kauai where The Garden Cafe is located. The farm-to-table restaurant is a favorite of ours, and we gave it a pink hibiscus in our restaurant guidebook.

“I am taking this opportunity to thank all the people that have supported Common Ground and its vision for inner and outer sustainability. The number of people that have connected with this vision locally and globally over the past few years has been astounding. It has provided an enormous amount of inspiration to all the people that work at Common Ground.
As you may know, Common Ground was approved to serve dinner. Our intention was to begin that service as soon as possible. I’m writing to inform you that I am unable to fulfill this desire and am holding of on doing dinner at this time. After going through the process to extend our hours, it is clear to me that my role now is to find the next steward for Common Ground. I am looking for a person that really appreciates the relationship of the land to organic food, human health and community. If you know of anyone that has the resources and passion to expand on what has been started, ask them to contact me at [email protected].

A Gift and a Question…

Effective immediately, we are offering a 10-percent kama aina discount to people that have a Hawaii driver’s license.
When you think of the potential for the vision of Common Ground Kauai, what comes to mind?”
Sincerely,
Chris Jaeb

I also received this note from Janine Myers, who works at The Garden Cafe and blogs about food and farming on Kauai at Farm Cook Kauai.

“Hi Marta, just wanted to say thank you for raising awareness on the local food movement and sustainability issues. I look forward to receiving your food event updates and postings every week. Also want to thank you for the MidWeek Kauai article on the Garden Cafe. I am a pantry cook at the cafe and also have a food blog for cooking and organic gardening instruction. I am very passionate about cooking and farming and am also very hopeful that the cafe succeeds. Thank you again for helping to provide clarity on the status of the cafe. Keep up the great work!”
Aloha!
