Eat Local at Verde Hawaii

Diners can now eat local in Hawaii at Verde restaurant, located in Kapaa. The popular New Mexican eatery has recently upgraded its menu with “clean” ingredients, such as produce that was grown on Kauai as well as antibiotic free chicken and pork. From the beginning, they’ve served Kailani Farm’s lettuce mix and for the past two years, grass-fed beef that’s raised and processed on Kauai’s Westside. As always, there are gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options.

Koloa Rum Debuts New Kauai Coffee Rum

Kauai’s award-winning Koloa Rum Company announces its new Kauai Coffee Rum, the result of a licensing agreement between the Kauai distiller and Kauai Coffee Company. Kauai Coffee Rum blends locally grown and dark-roasted Kauai Coffee with Koloa White Rum and pure Hawaiian cane sugar. It has a rich flavor with bold notes of coffee and cocoa.

I planted Hawaiian squash in my garden and ended up with four beautifully smooth, pale orange pumpkins. The Hawaiian pumpkin is a mix of kobocha and European squash that resists Hawaiian wasp stings. I got my seeds from the bi-annual plant and seed exchange hosted by Regenerations International Botanical Garden.
