Dine Out for Kauai's Farmers

The Shops at Kukuiula is hosting “Dine Out For Kauai’s Farmers,” a restaurant week event happening May 23-29, 2018.  Each participating restaurant will offer special prix fixe menus, and a portion of those proceeds will go to the Kauai Relief and Recovery Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation, which will directly support local farmers affected by the April floods.

Many visitors want a Kauai flood update. Indeed, last weekend’s flood prompted some of our guests to call and ask if our food tours are still operating, specifically on the north shore. The answer is yes. We start in Hanalei and end in Princeville and the damage to Kuhio highway is about 10 minutes north of where we are. We’ve had a few people cancel because of the Kauai flood, but I encourage you to honor your visit.

Ocean Aid Hawaii, a benefit concert, debuts in Honolulu on Sunday, April 30 with the goal of eradicating plastic pollution from the ocean. Hukilau Lanai recently announced a formal partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program, committing to serve only seafood caught or farmed in ocean-friendly ways. Hukilau Lanai is the first restaurant on Kauai and only the second restaurant in the State of Hawaii to make the commitment to support a healthy, sustainable ocean through partnering with Seafood Watch.

We are now into the part of the 2017 legislative session where your participation as a citizen of the great state of Hawaii is requested and appreciated. This message is requesting you take a few minutes of your time to testify online in support of 5 bills.  The deadline is Monday morning by noon, but the sooner the better please.

In less than nine months, the Surfrider Foundation and its coalition of partners have certified more than 100 Ocean Friendly Restaurants in Hawaii. This statewide program, which kicked off on Earth Day 2016, recognizes restaurants leading the way in environmental protection by operating without foam and plastic.

Sheraton Kauai Resort announces that over $100,000 has been donated to benefit the Kauai community through the resort’s Table 53 charity program since its inception in October 2012. On a monthly basis, all net food and beverage proceeds from RumFire Poipu Beach’s table number 53 is donated to a local charity. In June, proceeds from Table 53 will support the islands’ keiki through the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii.
