Tasting Kauai

Happy Aloha Friday! We had an exceptional week and hope you did too. Today, read about what will be served at this Sunday’s Taste of Hawaii in “A Taste of Hawaii for food lovers” found in our “Tastes of Kauai” column in The Garden Island newspaper. If you want a complete listing of what will be served, check out our blog post “2014 Taste of Hawaii“. This Sunday, our “On the Farm” column features organic watermelon from Growing Strong Farm. Yum!

Kauai Beer Company

Kauai Beer Company is adding food to their craft brew menu. Building on the success of Truck Stop Thursday (see listing below under ongoing), we now have Finally Friday. Tonight’s menu is listed under events, but here’s what Larry, their “marketing guy” has to say:

“We are starting the food on Friday and we will work on that menu first. It will be primarily lighter offerings, allowing people to double up on a pork slider or to get a panini sandwich and salad, but each item will be priced somewhere between $9 and $5, staying with the theme of Finally Friday. We are thinking about carrying through with the nightly theme idea starting with the  place to go after work, at the start of the weekend. We’ve got a great idea for Saturday and I know it will work like a charm. When we get closer on that one, I will let you know, but we first want to get Friday up and running. Similarly, we have something in mind for Wednesday. Somewhere in this progression, likely after Finally Friday is humming along, we will introduce cocktails.”

Tasting Kauai

Happy Aloha Friday! We had an exceptional week and hope you did too. Today, get an update on our weight loss progress while learning about healthy dining options on Kauai in our “Trucking Delicious food in Hanalei” article that runs in our “Tastes of Kauai” column in The Garden Island newspaper. Trucking Delicious elevates the humble grilled cheese sandwich, and we are certainly happy t have another fast and delicious option on the north shore.
This Sunday, our “On the Farm” column in The Garden Island newspaper covers Moloaa Organicaa and organic papayas. I’ve never met a grocery-store papaya that I likes, but these babies are sumptuous: fragrant, mildly sweet and juicy. Our article will list the many places you can purchase them.

Tasting Kauai is thrilled to introduce Melissa Gregory, a kindred spirit who is handling sales for our food tours and restaurant guidebook. Since Tasting Kauai likes to celebrate food through family, friends and kinship, we offer edible experiences to cultivate a connection with the people who grow and make Kauai’s food. As a creative woman who knows how to enjoy life, Melissa’s easy laughter is a welcome addition to our team.

Tasting Kauai

Happy Aloha Friday! We had an exceptional week and hope you did too. In Food, Fiestas at Paco’s Tacos House, that runs in our “Tastes of Kauai” column in today’s The Garden Island newspaper, you can learn what the brothers Aguilar have in store for Kapaa Art Walk (tomorrow) and Cinco de Mayo.  They have opened a new restaurant in Kapaa, so you’ll find out what they serve as well.
This Sunday, our “On the Farm” column explores an heirloom variety of eggplant and includes an excellent pupu recipe. You can get these rare eggplant starts from Heaven on Earth Starts at the Saturday Namahana farmers market and the Start Cart in front of Hoku Natural Foods Market.
We’ve added another Kauai food tour. Since we’ve received excellent feedback from our guests about A Taste of Kilohana, along with attentive service, the knowledge of our guide and the locally-sourced, off-the-menu lunch, we thought we’d serve up another! Now we offer A Culinary Romp Through Paradise, which takes place on a Friday, and for our hard-working residents, A Taste of Kilohana, which takes place on  two Saturdays a month. We also have our Farmers Market Tour, which takes place every Wednesday.
