September is National Honey Month, so it’s the perfect time to celebrate one of nature’s simplest pleasures. It’s hard to imagine anything more pure and natural than one-ingredient honey. Produced by bees from the nectar of plants and flowers, honey essentially flows from hive to the table. With more than 300  honey varietals found in the United States, all with a unique color and flavor, you are sure to find a honey varietal you will love.

If you’ve been fans of Tasting Kauai for a while, you know we hold the Kauai Grill in high esteem. We’ve had the privilege of interviewing chef de cuisine Maxime Michaud and executive chef Leanne Kamekona, as well as tasting dishes from world-renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. It’s simply delightful to be pampered with excellent service in a posh setting, while overlooking Hanalei Bay during sunset. Here is the new Fall 2013 menu, which includes 15 new dishes. If you would like to learn more about Maxime, Leanne, the food or  Kauai Grill, read my articles, “A Taste of Summer at the Kauai Grill“, “Robust Dishes at Kauai Grill” and “A Sense of Place on the Plate“.

NEWS:
Hole in the Mountain Farm‘s juicy, low-acid, sweet and tender Kauai Sugarloaf Pineapple won’t be available from now until mid-September. After that, they’ll have pineapple year-round. The white pineapple are  rare, and I enjoy being able to send a unique gift from Hawaii. So far, I’ve sent one to my folks in Colorado when, during our Saturday morning call, they said they missed Kauai. That pineapple perked their sweet memories right up! My aunt and uncle are celebrating 50-years this weekend, so one is on the way to them. I got lucky because the Huber’s had one left. Now, I must hold out for about three weeks! You can read about them in my article, and visit their website for ordering information.
